MD DNR Black Bass Roundtable 2016
Feb 29,2016: 60 degrees, sun is blazing, then rain, windy, then partly cloudy. It’s so great to live in PA in February. Everybody is thinking about what to they would be throwing today. I’m right there with you. I recently received an update on the MD DNR Black Bass Roundtable, held on Feb.4,2016. It’s a ten page pdf, discussing various topics related to the Potomac and Upper Bay, and all connecting waters. There are facts on the stocking programs, population numbers, and the Middle River fish kill. They are considering a Black Bass Stamp program. There are some new survey questions for those using COMPASS to renew your license. A Largemouth Mouth Bass Virus and Snakehead report. New tournament requirements are being discussed for permits and running of tournaments. Mini reef project in Smoots Bay is discussed, as well as the proposed wave break at Elk Neck. My favorite is the new regulations for 6 Catch & Return Areas to be established, where tournament anglers would not be able to fish, for the next three years. I know some of you may not really be concerned or affected by this on the western side of the state. This is a big thing for all of us though. We need the numbers, to support our proposal, and to let Maryland know we don’t like this regulation. MD TBF is less than 70 members including spouses. At the bottom of the report there is a link for public response. We have until March 10, 2016 to give our input. On a positive note, at the very end, they do recognize that we contribute to their economy, in a large way. Tight Lines Guys. Thanks for your help.

District 2 – Williamsport, Linden Access 4/3/16, now 4/10/16
We will be watching the weather on Saturday to see what we will do on Sunday. As of right now, we are still planning on fishing. Thank you.
Location – Williamsport, PA
Launch Site – Antlers (Linden Access)
Dates – Sunday, April 3rd (the backup date is April 10th)
Time – 7:00 am – 3:00 pm, (if we can launch earlier we will try)
Registration – 5:45 am to 6:45 am
Do not launch your boat until you have checked in, completed the boat check and met up with your co-angler.
This will be a 3 fish tournament, 15″ minimum.
No culling of dead fish. Dead fish MUST be taken with you.
Lunker Fee is $10 and Lunker must be a live fish.
All PA Boating and Fishing rules and regulation must be adhered to at all times.
All PA Bass tournament rules apply.
Angler must fish from the front deck and the Co-Angler must fish from the rear deck only.
It is suggested that the cost of the gas/oil used during the day be shared between the boater and the rider.
This will be a trailered weigh in. When you weigh-in, come up to the table, turn in your numbers, get and sign your weigh-in slips (keep them), then get in line for a bag (CANNOT use your own). Get your fish from your boat; have bag dinked & weighed. Give me your slip, verify weight and get your yellow copy. Return fish to water and return bags to table where you got them.
Last boat will call out numbers and each boat will launch every 10 seconds.
The tournament committee (District Officers present) will make the decision to hold a fog delay if necessary for safety. If so, the committee will make decisions regarding take off time, extending fishing hours, etc.
SAFETY – Life jackets MUST be worn when the outboard motor is running. This includes coming in to beach the boat, taking the boat on and off the trailer. If you are on the boat, the outboard is running, life jacket MUST be on for all aboard. Failure to do so can result in disqualification in the tournament.

With the lower temperatures that are currently being forecasted, we need to be careful at the ramp. When you are pulling the trailers out of the water after dumping the boat, please stop to let the trailer drain before pulling up the ramp. We need to try and reduce the amount of ice that may form.

MD Regulation for Catch and Release
Here is the proposed Catch and Release areas for largemouth bass in Tidal Waters. I mentioned in my previous post that I’m against this, for many reasons. I’ve already been advised on this topic, and how the PA Bass Federation will proceed. I do want all of you to see, read and judge for yourself what is being proposed. Send me your thoughts, and possible changes to be offered up in place of this proposal. If nothing else, I ask you to professionally contact the stated people and tell them you are against this regulation.
