2011 Jr State Champions

Ryan Orsargos (11-14) and Matt Hoover (12-15) will represent Pennsylvania at the 2012 National Guard Junior World Championship to be held at Atlanta next year.

Ryan, with 6 fish totaling 13.56 lbs., beat out Zack Bezak who weighed in 5 fish for 11.25 lbs. including a 2.87 largemouth, the tournament lunker.

Matt weighed in 6 fish for 12.06 lbs. besting 2010 winner Fisher Stewart who also boated 6 fish for 11.27 lbs. however Fisher received a .50 lb. penalty for a dead fish (the only one of the tournament) which masked just how close the finish actually was.

Congratulations to Ryan and Matt for a job well done and we wish them the best at the 2012 World Championship.

Keeping Bass Alive – From MD DNR

Dear Pennsylvania,

Many black bass anglers hold onto their catch for an hour or more throughout the fishing day.  Keeping the bass alive in a live well can be a challenge sometimes, especially during summer months.  Many people have different ideas on how to keep those fish alive.  We recently studied some of those ideas and just how good water quality is in the live well.  We learned that recirculation with fresh water every 30 minutes for at least 3 – 5 minutes is very important.  If you’re a tournament director or fish in tournaments, please pass this onto others who may not be getting this email.  Thanks!  For questions or comments, respond to Joe Love, jlove@dnr.state.md.us.
